Wood Joints End To End

Joint image description butt joint: the end of a piece of wood is butted against another piece of wood. this is the simplest and weakest joint. of those, there is the a) t-butt, b) end-to-end butt, c) t-lap d) miter butt and e) edge-to-edge butt.. If you want to cover the end grain you need to allow for wood movement! a breadboard end or a sliding dovetail...something that will allow a 25"- 26" kitchen counter of solid walnut to move about an 1/8 inch over the seasons.. Joints may be as simple as one end of a piece of wood placed on another, or they may be as elaborate as several interlocking slots. most joints are held together with some sort of outside force, such as glue, nails, staples, or screws..
